Even after the success of “Drowning,” WOODZ still finds time to work on his voice. During the October 23 episode of KBS2’s The Seasons — Sung Si-kyung’s Eardrum Boyfriend, the singer-songwriter described a surprisingly ordinary part of his routine: practicing vocal technique simply because he enjoys it.

How a habit began in the car
WOODZ explained that he started out as a rapper. Spending time with vocalists who warmed up in the car, however, made him curious about what their voices could do. He began joining in. Eventually, learning to control his own voice became less an obligation and more an interest he wanted to pursue.
That interest continues during his tours. He said he keeps in touch with a vocal teacher and asks questions whenever he notices an issue while singing on tour. Rather than seeing each concert as a finished product, he seems to treat it as another opportunity to learn.
Nearly 30 songs, with less talking in between
His comments came while discussing how much singing a live show can demand. WOODZ said he performs close to 30 songs at his concerts and tends to communicate through music rather than extended stage conversations. Sung Si-kyung pointed out that this approach requires stamina as well as vocal training.
Sung reacted warmly when WOODZ described his habit of studying singing, then poked fun at himself for having a very different relationship with formal vocal lessons. The exchange was lighthearted, but it made a telling point: the confidence audiences hear onstage is built through small, repeated efforts away from the spotlight.

Lee Seung-chul’s reminder: feeling matters too
WOODZ also recalled working with veteran singer Lee Seung-chul and receiving advice about putting emotion ahead of too much attention to technique and lyrics. It is an interesting counterpoint to his love of vocal study: learning the mechanics of singing should make room for feeling, not replace it.
For people who discovered WOODZ during the renewed attention around Drowning, this is a glimpse of the work that continues beyond the viral moment. The headline may be about success, but his own story in the interview was about remaining a student.
