In a new interview with Brazilian news outlet UOL Splash, LE SSERAFIM’s Huh Yunjin offered an unusually clear look at how a musical decision was made. She said she supported the use of Brazilian funk in “Irony,” the group’s collaboration with production duo Tropkillaz, because she could picture the rhythm and energy on stage.
A creative choice, not just a collaboration
It is tempting to describe the song simply as Korean pop meeting Brazilian production. Yunjin’s account is more revealing: a group member herself wanted the sound to be part of the music. She described advocating the direction rather than just recording what others had chosen, adding another layer to how listeners can understand the track.
Why Tropkillaz mattered
The Brazilian duo are known for dance music that draws from local rhythmic traditions. On “Irony,” those ideas sit alongside LE SSERAFIM’s performance-driven approach. Yunjin connected the arrangement with the kind of movement she imagined for the stage, showing how decisions about sound and choreography can inform each other.
The song was already out
“Irony” had been released in May. The October 19 interview is therefore a new account of an existing song, not a new single announcement. Its value lies in the story of how the recording came together and what Yunjin hoped audiences would hear in it.
Interest in Brazilian music is not a release plan
Yunjin also expressed interest in bossa nova and other Brazilian sounds. She did not announce that a new recording is in production, and the interview did not establish a Brazilian concert date. These are personal musical interests, and any future project will need its own official confirmation.
What this says about K-pop
International pop collaborations are frequently described in terms of expanding markets. Here, an artist’s instinct offers a more interesting angle. A specific member’s enthusiasm helped shape the musical direction, turning an exchange between music scenes into something the group could make its own.
