Profile
WOODZ is the solo identity of singer, songwriter and producer Cho Seungyoun. After debuting with UNIQ in 2014 and releasing solo music as Luizy, he developed the WOODZ project around a flexible mix of R&B, pop and guitar-driven music. His catalogue moves from the bright momentum of EQUAL to the darker textures of OO-LI. Drowning became one of his signature songs, while the 2026 album Archive. 1 expands his work into a full-length statement.
His path into music included time in Brazil, where he pursued football before returning to Korea to train as a singer. His experience in UNIQ and X1 preceded a solo career that increasingly placed his own writing and musical choices at the centre.
That development is especially clear in his move towards band-driven arrangements. On Archive. 1, he worked with collaborators including NATHAN and guitarist HOHO, exploring contrasting rock styles while keeping the guitar prominent. In his Rolling Stone UK interview, he described the album as a way to examine identity, purpose and his changing outlook on life.
Drowning also brought a new audience to his earlier work. First released in 2023, the song found wider attention during his military service. After his July 2025 discharge, he returned to recording and international touring. His 2026 conversation with The FADER offers a useful companion to the music, covering his live performances, connection with MOODZ and approach to presenting his songs on stage.
