Profile

BIBI (비비), born Kim Hyung-seo, is a South Korean solo singer-songwriter, rapper and actress whose music resists easy genre labels. R&B and hip-hop are central to her sound, but she moves just as naturally into indie-pop melodies, jazz-influenced arrangements and theatrical ballads. Her close, conversational vocals can turn playful or vulnerable within the same song. More than a fixed musical style, it is her fascination with telling stories—sometimes intimate and sometimes unsettling—that gives her records their identity.

Before her recording debut, BIBI shared original music online and attracted the attention of musicians Yoon Mi-rae and Tiger JK, who helped introduce her to a wider audience. She became a runner-up on the Korean television competition The Fan in 2018, then launched her solo career with Binu (비누) in May 2019 under Feel Ghood Music. The song’s bright presentation and unusually candid writing hinted at the contrasts she would continue to explore in later work.

Her early releases gradually established an audience beyond Korean R&B circles. Songs such as She Got It (2020) and The Weekend (2021) showed the softer and sharper sides of her voice, while the 2022 full-length album Lowlife Princess: Noir built an entire world around its songs. The album’s central figure, a fictional antiheroine, gave tracks such as BIBI Vengeance and Animal Farm a cinematic context rather than treating them as unrelated singles. The dark, sometimes confrontational visuals were part of the album’s storytelling.

In February 2024 she reached a much broader domestic audience with Bam Yang Gang (밤양갱), a gentle, whimsical song written and composed by Chang Kiha. Its restraint was striking beside her earlier noir material. The success also made clear that BIBI did not need to repeat a single sound to remain recognizable. At the 2024 MAMA Awards, the song received Best Vocal Performance – Solo.

Her second studio album, EVE: ROMANCE, arrived on May 14, 2025 with 14 songs: six then-new recordings and eight tracks issued previously. Built around the contrasting perspectives of Eve and Eve-1, its story considers desire, vulnerability, identity and the expectations attached to love. Apocalypse, Scott and Zelda, Derre and Hongdae R&B reveal very different sides of that concept. Rather than simply compiling hit singles, the album frames them as parts of a larger narrative. The release coincided with preparations for her first headline world tour, eve, which began in Seoul and expanded internationally.

In 2026 BIBI followed the album cycle with the standalone solo single BUMPA on May 20. She wrote its lyrics, shared composition credit with BlackDoe and 623, and received a production credit. The song emphasizes movement and uncomplicated enjoyment, bringing a more spontaneous, summery mood to a catalogue often associated with elaborate narratives. On October 2 she released Yochi!, the opening theme of TV Tokyo’s Mame to Mugi. A separate performance with ARGY and Alawn at EDC Korea in October was a live preview of an unreleased collaboration, not an additional BIBI solo single.

BIBI has also built an independent screen career under her birth name, Kim Hyung-seo. She appeared in the 2023 film Hopeless (Hwaran), which screened in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section, and received the Best New Actress (Film) award at the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2024. Television appearances include The Worst of Evil (2023), Gangnam B-Side (2024) and The Fiery Priest 2 (2024). Her acting credits and awards are treated separately from her independently released music.
