izna thought their Japanese debut might sound a little more like “Mamma Mia.” Instead, they got “DUMB HOT!”—a song that even surprised the members. In an October 30 interview with Billboard Japan, the six-member group talks about the unexpected title track, the work behind its playful choreography and what their first Japanese mini-album, HANDLE WITH CARE, means to them.
Released on September 2, 2026, the record marks izna’s official entry into the Japanese music market following their 2024 debut in Korea. Speaking to interviewer Azusa Takahashi, MAI, BANG JEE MIN, KOKO, RYU SA RANG, CHOI JUNG EUN and JEONG SAE BI share the details that make the release feel distinctly theirs.

A softer sound that surprised the members
MAI remembers hearing “DUMB HOT!” during the group’s “Mamma Mia” promotions. She had imagined a Japanese debut closer to the cooler sound of that release, so the upbeat, pop-driven track came as a surprise. Once she heard it, though, she felt it suited the new chapter—and would give Japanese naya a different side of the group to enjoy.
The change is noticeable on stage. KOKO calls “DUMB HOT!” one of izna’s cutest performances, with more room for smiles, eye contact and freestyle gestures than usual. That sense of freedom still takes preparation: the members work through the choreography together and offer one another feedback until the details feel right.
CHOI JUNG EUN says the cute expressions took practice, and it was youngest member JEONG SAE BI who helped coach her. RYU SA RANG paid attention to making her vocals sound fresh and light in the studio. KOKO explains that the members learn the choreography as taught before finding places to add their own gestures and personality.
What ‘HANDLE WITH CARE’ means
The phrase HANDLE WITH CARE sounds like something printed on a fragile package, but izna use it to talk about something more personal: taking care of yourself. Their Japanese label describes the album as a reminder to trust your own judgment and recognize your worth. It fits the group’s wider message of being comfortable with who you are, without having to change for other people.
The five-song mini-album pairs “DUMB HOT!” with another new track, “HEADACHE,” and Japanese-language versions of “IZNA,” “SIGN” and “Mamma Mia.” Listeners who already know izna’s Korean releases will hear familiar songs in a new setting, while the two new tracks show where the group wants to go next.

“HEADACHE” presents a different challenge. JEONG SAE BI says its lively melody can be misleading: there is more going on in the lyrics than the sound initially suggests. She approached the upbeat sections with a brighter vocal tone, then brought more emotion into the lines that needed it. MAI encourages listeners to pay attention to how the members’ six voices carry those changes.
September’s Japan debut, remembered
The group celebrated the September 2 release with a music-video countdown event in Shinjuku, then held their debut showcase at KT Zepp Yokohama on September 6. Around 1,000 fans attended the showcase, according to Japanese concert coverage. After preparing the songs and practicing Japanese introductions, the members finally had a chance to hear the audience’s response in person.
BANG JEE MIN describes feeling both nervous and excited at the showcase. Seeing fans stand up and cheer was especially memorable. In the interview, the members look back on the event as a welcome payoff for their preparations, with the audience’s reactions giving them confidence about what to try next.

Four Japanese cities are next
Next on the Japan calendar is the March 2027 leg of 2026–2027 izna Concert Tour: WHO DAT GIRL?, with stops in Fukuoka, Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka. KOKO has a personal reason to look forward to the last date: Osaka is her hometown. After the debut showcase, the tour will give the group more time with naya in different parts of Japan.
| Date | City | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| March 12, 2027 | Fukuoka | Zepp Fukuoka |
| March 14, 2027 | Tokyo | Zepp Haneda (TOKYO) |
| March 27, 2027 | Nagoya | Zepp Nagoya |
| March 28, 2027 | Osaka | Zepp Namba (OSAKA) |
The Japanese official site opened a further ticket lottery on October 30, running through November 10, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. JST. Fans should consult the organizer for current conditions, including eligibility and availability. An application window is not a guarantee of tickets.
Their wish list isn’t limited to concerts. BANG JEE MIN wants to visit a Japanese theme park with the other members, and she’s studying the language so she can speak more easily with local fans. MAI would welcome variety-show appearances, as well as opportunities in fashion and beauty. Both ideas offer a glimpse of the everyday experiences they hope to share as izna’s activities in Japan grow.
Watch izna’s official ‘DUMB HOT!’ music video
Released through izna’s official Japanese channels on September 2, the “DUMB HOT!” music video puts the colorful tone discussed in the interview on screen. This is the song’s official MV, not a recording of the Billboard Japan interview.

An important step, not a second beginning
What’s refreshing about the Billboard Japan conversation is how often the members move from big ambitions to small details. They talk about getting a gesture right, adjusting a vocal line and making sure each person feels comfortable on stage. The Japanese debut is a milestone, but their answers show how much of izna’s identity is built in rehearsals and in the way the six members work together.
“DUMB HOT!” may not have been the debut track MAI expected. Yet that surprise—and the fun the members found in bringing it to the stage—might be what makes this Japanese release stand out from what came before.
